Management

MEMSense’s experience in management of electronics and software product developments spans a cumulative total of 46 years. MEMSense has managed and performed custom inertial developments for the U.S. Special Operations Command, U.S. Army’s Redstone Arsenal’s Aviation Missile Research Development and Engineering Center, the United States Navy and other large prime contractors.

Design

MEMSense has created an array of MEMS based inertial systems for a wide range of customer applications.  MEMSense is on the leading edge in the creation of inertial systems that most inertial development suppliers won’t even consider.  MEMSense designs are the smallest in the market while consistently achieving a high level of performance and reliability.

Proof of these claims can be evidenced in a summary of MEMSense active development projects. MEMSense is developing a digital IMU for the U.S. Army for a tactical rocket trajectory correction application that most thought to be impossible. MEMSense has maintained a cooperative research and development agreement with Redstone Arsenal AMRDEC for 5 years.

An additional custom development was performed for Picatinny Arsenal that enabled advanced test applications using a MEMSense IMU.

Still further evidence of MEMSense’s design experience can be found in a project MEMSense is performing with a private commercial customer that is targeted at the development of an inertial based antenna stabilization system.

Manufacturing

MEMSense fabricates the world’s smallest commercially available digital and analog inertial measurement units. This fabrication is accomplished through the implementation of process controls, highly integrated test and manufacturing processes, and proactive approaches to issue management and product revisions.

MEMSense maintains a world class manufacturing organization through the implementation of several key manufacturing philosophies.  The people behind the system are number one, so work is performed safely or not at all – employee safety is never compromised. Utilization of lean manufacturing practices are employed to reduce waste and increase value delivered to our customers.  A relentless focus on process improvement is upheld to reduce costs and lead times while improving product reliability.  The goal of process improvement is carried into product creation through a close partnership with Research and Development thereby ensuring new products are designed for manufacturability.

At MEMSense a relentless focus is kept on increasing product value and quality while reducing lead times. MEMSense continually focuses on outperforming all competitors in on time delivery, reliability, and after sale support. The talented MEMSense Engineering staff is utilized to constantly improve our manufacturing tools and systems to decrease cycle times and improve line yields. MEMSense employees are constantly innovating safer, faster, better manufacturing methods through creative thinking and challenging the status quo. New technologies are employed wherever possible to improve our processes and increase line yields.

Test

MEMSense’s test experience includes thousands of hours of inertial test performed in the production of its normal product line.  MEMSense has gained further test experience through the development testing of custom products. A focus on quality is applied in all test processes at MEMSense through 100% test of all products manufactured over complete operating temperature ranges and dynamic input ranges. All tests performed on MEMSense products are automated and all serial number traceable test data is retained.

MEMSense test facilities include the following equipment capabilities. Thermal rate tables with liquid nitrogen cooling allow devices to be tested over a broad range of temperatures (-80 ºC to 125 ºC) while under going angular rates up to 5400 degrees per second. MEMSense utilizes a triaxial Helmholtz coil with thermal environment control to test and calibrate magnetometers used in our products. Testing vibration sensitivity in MEMSense products is accomplished using an electro-dynamic shaker system capable of random and sine sweep testing up to 4 kHz. MEMSense developed and utilizes a repetitive shock testing system capable of 10 impacts per second with 2000 to 6000 G amplitudes. Single event shock testing is achieved using a custom drop tower capable of 10,000 G amplitudes. MEMSense also has a 250 G 1-meter centrifuge under development.

Support

MEMSense has gained valuable experience in technical support by focusing on complete customer satisfaction in the sales and support of its current inertial product line.  MEMSense currently supports over one hundred customers not only in the integration of the inertial products into the customer’s system but also at times with application and environmental technical support. Although MEMSense values all of its customers, customers whom engage the Company for custom inertial system development are treated with the highest priority. We also offer custom integration support to help customers integrate our sensors into their products, this service is available by the hour.  Buy as little as one hour of time or more if you need it, contact sales for more information.
